Bird proofing
Permanent physical exclusion: spikes, netting, and hardware-cloth barriers that deny birds the ledges, cavities, and roosts they rely on. The lasting complement to falconry and trapping: once a space is proofed, it stays proofed.
How it works
Take away the surface, and the birds have nowhere to settle.
Deterrence moves birds on; trapping reduces a population. Exclusion removes the reason they came in the first place. By physically closing off the ledges, beams, cavities, and voids birds use to roost and nest, bird proofing makes a structure unusable to them. It is a permanent fix rather than an ongoing intervention.
It's the right tool where a problem is tied to specific, identifiable features of a building, and where the goal is to solve it once. On most sites it works best alongside the other methods: trapping or falconry to clear the birds already present, exclusion to keep the structure from drawing them back.
What we install
Matched to the surface and the species.
The right barrier depends on the feature being protected and the birds using it. Our installed work includes:
- Bird spikes on ledges, beams, and parapets
- Netting to seal courtyards, voids, and canopies
- Hardware-cloth covers on cavities and openings
- Ledge exclusion on signage and rooflines
- Roost-pocket and eave closure
- Large-scale netting for enclosed structures
Every installation is specified to the site. The wrong product on the wrong surface fails within a season, which is why the assessment comes first.
Applications
Where a permanent fix makes sense.
Bird proofing suits problems anchored to the structure itself, the same institutional environments we serve across our other services:
- Rooftop mechanical areas and parapets
- Loading docks and canopies
- Parking structures
- Warehouse and hangar interiors
- Signage, ledges, and building faces
- Courtyards and covered walkways
How an engagement runs
A program built around your site, not a standard visit.
-
Site assessment
We survey the structure: which features the birds are using, which species, the surfaces involved, and any access, height, or safety constraints on installation.
-
Specification
A barrier plan matched to each surface and species, with the product and fastening method chosen to last rather than to quote cheap.
-
Installation
Clean, discreet installation that works with the building, scheduled around your operations and carried out to your site's safety rules.
-
Reporting
Documentation of the work performed and the areas protected, in a report you can hand to your facilities team.
Non-lethal and lawful
Exclusion harms nothing. It just closes the door.
Physical exclusion is entirely non-lethal: it changes the building, not the birds. It uses no pesticides or toxicants, and the exclusion of pest birds by mechanical barriers is exempt from structural pest control licensing in California. Full licensing and insurance detail is on our compliance page.
